Puerto Rico Teacher's Day - May
Among the highlights of the Puerto Rico Teachers Day in May could be the issues and concerns of teachers union that threatened the government of a nationwide strike two weeks ago to air their grievances for salary increases and other benefits. The teacher appreciation in this country is celebrated in seven days or exactly one week. The head of the teacher’s federation Rafael Feliciano had earlier announced their demands would continue until the government meets their need for salary increases at reasonable level.
Despite of the ongoing concerns of teachers in the country the Teacher’s Day in May could still go on as scheduled and traditional activities such as gift giving, tokens and love cards are always part of the celebration.
The following are the usual activities in the country during teacher appreciation week in Puerto Rico, situated in the Caribbean region.
Love Cards
Traditionally, every month of May thousands of students across the country would prepare for their personalized greetings and love cards and give them to their favourite teachers. Teachers would always love to read these messages from their students, saying they would always remind them that even though how tiring their job it’s still worth the efforts when their students always love them the way they wrote their messages.
Parties
Many also of the colleges and universities in the country which can afford to host parties are giving this party as a gift for their teachers. This is the time when they would treat the teachers with the country’s top delicacies and cuisine. During the night there would be dances and other forms of entertainment, after which a finale would be the awarding of the most outstanding teachers in their field of expertise.
