Hungary Teacher's Day
From the beginning of the 1950's teacher appreciation has been shown on Hungary's national Teacher's Day. It is celebrated every year on the first Sunday of June. It is the day when students give expression to their gratitude for all the effort that their teachers made during the whole school year. These ceremonies used to be one of the most important national celebrations.
In 1951 a regulation was made by the Council of Ministers in which they declared the first Sunday of June to be the day, when appreciation is shown towards teachers. It was celebrated for the very first time in 1952 when all the prominent teachers has been awarded for their achievements.
Nowadays people don't show their interest the same way as they did before. Usually only students from elementary schools show their appreciation to their teachers by preparing little ceremonies.
In most schools teacher's day celebrations are attached to other school ceremonies. Usually school choir sings songs and students declaim poems that were written especially for teachers by famous poets.
Most commonly students give flowers or little gifts to their teachers but every now and then they prepare something more special and individual to show their gratitude.
