Chile Teacher's Day - October 16th
The Chile Teacher’s Day celebration every 16th of October is also a respected activity among a group of educators and members of the academes all over the country. There is confusion of the current date of this teacher appreciation day as some quarters want it change to a new date.
In 1974, the government’s celebration of teacher’s day was originally December 10. The date was chosen because based on records A Chilean poet named Gabriela Mistral was the first Latin American educator who was awarded the prestigious Nobel Prize in 1945. However, another group of leaders who ruled the country in 1977 have changed the teacher appreciation day to October 16 in recognition of the foundation of Teacher’s College in Chile. The said date eventually became the final date of teacher’s day in the country.
Since then the Chile Teacher’s Day become the best celebration all over the country. Schools and colleges are always making it one of the biggest and nationwide activities appreciating the great contributions of thousands of educators.
The following are the usual activities during Chile Teacher’s Day.
Teacher’s Party
Big colleges and universities in the country that have enough funds usually conduct special parties for the teachers. The activity is conducted in restaurants and hotels to make the activity more meaningful for educators. Usually, the activity would also highlight the awarding of outstanding teachers in their own field of expertise.
Conference
Other most attended activity during teacher’s day is the national conference of educators – where teachers can freely discuss major concerns about the teaching profession, updates, curriculum and other concerns.
Teacher gifts, tokens
Thousands of students and parents all over the country are also expected to send love cards, greeting cards to their beloved teachers, as well as other tokens of appreciation and teacher gifts.
